Optikerforeningen (The Danish Opticians' Association) is a trade association for opticians' businesses. The association works to ensure that Danes have the best possible vision care. This is done through continuous education of opticians and optometrists, dialogue with health authorities and information campaigns for the population.
Documentation for hundreds of Danish opticians' education is stored in a database at Optikbranchens Efteruddannelse. The personal data, which includes CPR numbers and information about courses and continuing education, is handled in a TS Application – a member portal that enables several different stakeholders to access specific sections of data. Security has been a primary focus from the start, which was optimized with access to the system first via NemID and later MitID.
Personal Data Requires Security
Optikbranchens Efteruddannelse is an organization that, among other things, keeps track of Danish opticians' education, courses and continuing education. Personal data and completed education are used, among other things, if a patient case arises or as documentation in connection with employment. In some cases, the register goes back more than 20 years, and thus constitutes important documentation for the professionalism of an entire industry. This requires security.
The personal data is stored in a database that is administered by a TS Application. The choice of the TS No-code Platform for developing the member portal was a natural consequence of the desire to tighten security and at the same time make the system more flexible and robust to ongoing changes.
Initially, we had data stored in an Access database, and it actually worked very well. However, we had a concern about security. In addition, we wanted to make it possible for course providers to gain access to enter information about members' courses via the portal. This would save our secretariat the major task of keeping the information up to date, explains optometrist Per Michael Larsen, who is the secretariat manager and chairman of the board of the Opticians' Association, which is also the secretariat for the Optical Industry's Continuing Education.
Different Users. Different Rights.
This required a portal that can handle different users being granted rights to different levels and sections of data. Course providers must be able to enter and upload course documentation for an arbitrary group of members, but must not have access to the individual members' data. Conversely, a user must have access to his own information - but not to edit it - and at the same time, he must of course not be able to access other users' data. The secretariat, on the other hand, must have access to all data and functions.
For this kind of rights management, the TS No-code Platform is ideal, and can deliver with such great precision and user-friendliness that the secretariat, to a large extent, can itself handle the adjustments.
User Validation with NemID / MitID
"When we integrated NemID, everyday life became even easier. Users can always log in to the portal securely and independently of changing passwords and emails. It has been a great relief for the secretariat that we do not have to spend time supporting users with password resets," says Per Michael Larsen.
It has also increased security. The portal, as well as relevant procedures, meet modern requirements for personal data protection. With the deprecation of NemID, we were updated to MitID. "We actually expected that it would require a new integration project, but with TS No-code Platform, it is quite simple to implement user validation with MitID," concludes Per Michael Larsen.
