Knorr-Bremse AG is a German manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles. Established in 1905 by German engineer Georg Knorr, the company has now operated for 120 years. As the global market leader for braking systems and many other vehicle subsystems, Knorr-Bremse Rail Vehicle Systems ranks among the global forces that are driving the shift towards sustainable transportation and next-generation mobility. The Group has a presence in over 30 countries, at 100 locations. In 2023, the Group's workforce of over 33,000 achieved a revenue of EUR 7.93 billion.

Knorr-Bremse has bundled its aftermarket activities for the rail sector under the business unit RailServices, providing innovative solutions for every stage in a rail vehicle’s service life. Back in 2022 Knorr-Bremse acquired and integrated two major local service specialists - DSB Component Workshops in Denmark. When Knorr-Bremse RailServices took over the DSB Component Workshops it got more than it had bargained for. First and foremost, a group of highly skilled and dedicated workers, with extensive experience in maintaining and repairing a wide variety of components. Secondly, a state-of-the-art manufacturing system to manage the complexity of maintenance and repairs.

Priore to the acquisition, DSB had developed a new manufacturing system in collaboration with Carve Consulting and TS. Given the complexity and the varying process steps for each component type, depending on a multitude of factors, it was not feasible to implement the manufacturing processes in SAP. Instead DSB and Carve decided to take a different path, developing the applications and workflows using TS No-code Platform.

Orders originate in SAP. From here they are fed into the so called KFS System. In KFS, based on the current needs and inventory status, production is planned and shift schedules are created accordingly. Throughout the process quality assurance and documentation is carried out and all the processes in a multi-layered workflow are controlled and executed. Finally, when all the work is completed, relevant data is returned to SAP.
